Knitting pattern: Sainte-Marie

The lovely Sainte-Marie lace scarf is the perfect companion for your spring and summer wardrobe. It has been named after a little beach on the French Atlantic coast where I spent a wonderful day knitting with the blue linen yarn one summer. The design echoes the Atlantic waves and transforms them into a beautiful and versatile accessory. The pattern itself is very easy and repetitive - a good beginner’s lace pattern.

Shown in Karen Noe Linea (75% linen/25% cotton; 260m/100g) in blue and Noro Sekku (50% cotton, 17% wool, 17% nylon, 16% silk; 421m/50g).

(in pattern stitch) 37 sts x 24 rows = 15 x 9cm/ 6 x 3.5” before blocking. Gauge is not crucial, except to determine yardage.

approx. 225m for the blue lace scarf and 2 balls of Noro Sekku for the colored one.

approx. 18cm/7” wide and 165cm/65” long after blocking. By adding repeats you can adjust the width and length of this scarf easily.

3.5mm (US size 4) needles or size to obtain gauge. A larger needle may be helpful to bind off.

tapestry needle to weave in ends, pins to block.
