In this tutorial we are facing the question: How do I get the stitches off my needles once I finished knitting? Actually there is more than one way (as you can also see in the tutorial section) how to bind off stitches, but today I’ll focus on a basic bind off.
1. Knit the first stitch.
2. Knit the next stitch. You have 2 stitches on your right needle now.
3. Insert your left needle into the FIRST stitch on your right needle from left to right.
4. Lift this first stitch over the second stitch and let the first stitch slip from the needle. The stitch won’t turn into a running stitch as it is securely resting around the former second stitch which now has become your first stitch. (see next picture)
Repeat steps 2 to 4 until there are no stitches left on your left needle and there is only one stitch on your right needle. Pull on this stitch until it’s at least 20cm / 8″ long and snip it in the middle. Weave in the remaining tail. So this is how to bind off stitches knitwise.
